Distinctive Perspectives
It is not surprising perhaps that over 2000 years of church history as the church of Jesus has grown in number, different points of view have arisen over all kinds of different issues. Some of these issues are very important- essential in our view in what it means to be a Christian. Other issues are extremely important, and we believe are vital to be clear on to prevent over time a drift into serious error.
Other issues are secondary in importance. While secondary in importance, on some issues it is important that we do take a position, as these issues may affect the way our church functions. On the other hand, on some other secondary issues, we deliberately don't take a firm position, as we allow it is possible for Christians to have harmonious fellowship with one another even when they are not in full agreement on every issue.
In the document below, we set out some of our views on the most common issues of difference amongst Christians in different churches. We ask church members to consider our position on these doctrinal and practical issues. We do not require every member of our church to necessarily agree 100%
with every stance we take on controversial issues. However, we do ask that members do not deliberately seek to introduce teaching or practices within the church which are at variance with the perspectives on which we do present a formal perspective. On other issues of less importance, we ask that people understand the importance of unity, to learn from others with humility, and to refrain from creating division on these types of issues.
